The Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing MASH
Sober homes provide mutual support, emphasize independent living skills, and depend on peer leadership. They are not licensed and are not funded by the state. In mash sober living July 2014, Massachusetts passed legislation that mandates the monitoring and voluntary certification of Massachusetts sober homes.
Standards
Effective September 1, 2016, state agencies and their vendors shall only be able to refer clients to certified alcohol and drug free (ADF) housing. Any home not certified will not be able to accept clients from state agencies until certified. A contract was awarded to the Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing (MASH) to be the certifying body, and the training and technical assistance vendor.
Code of Ethics
Verification that kitchen and dining area(s) are large enough to accommodate all residents sharing meals together. Verification that a meeting space is large enough to accommodate all residents. Verification that each resident has personal item storage. Verification that furnishings are typical of those in single family homes or apartments as opposed to institutional settings.
Providing access to a sober lifestyle.
Join our sober living community or refer a client, family member, or friend. Submit an application online and receive a call back within 24 hours. Staff and/or resident leaders educate residents about local community-based resources. Evidence that residents increase recovery capital through such things as recovery support and community service, work/employment, etc.
MASH Certified Sober Homes
- At all times, you will treat the residents you serve with dignity and respect.
- 27.b Residents find and sustain relationships with one or more recovery mentors or mutual aid sponsors.
- Successful sober homes establish and reinforce healthy lifestyles, provide a safe and stable place to live, conduct meaningful activities, and build relationships and social networks for support.
- Policies that value individuals chosen for leadership roles who are versed and trained in the Social Model of recovery and best practices of the profession.
- Furthermore, you will inform a resident when any fees are paid on their behalf by a third party.
You will work to maintain quality housing that meets or exceeds the quality of its neighborhood. You will demonstrate activities that benefit the home’s neighbors. Amenities drug addiction include on site laundry, air conditioning, parking, full kitchens, living/dining rooms and quick access to public transportation. Our staff is kind, thoughtful and approachable. Residents are linked to mutual aid, recovery activities and recovery advocacy opportunities.
